Summit ASEAN in Jakarta this weekend will become a means of exchange of experience of member countries. Summit also will be an excellent evaluation of the ASEAN countries in establishing the three pillars of ASEAN.
This was conveyed by Foreign Ministry spokesman, Michael Tene. In his presentation on the agenda of the ASEAN Summit to the media, Tene said that the main purpose of the Summit is to provide member countries an opportunity to convey their experiences.
"In the summit, delegates will exchange views and present developments in the region," says Tene.
Exchange of views in the Summit of ASEAN members, said Tene, done for the sake of realizing the three priorities of ASEAN. One is the efforts of the ASEAN economic community to realize the ASEAN Community by 2015.
"This is realized in the framework of three pillars of ASEAN, economic, political and security, and socio-cultural," says Tene.
Second priority, he added, is to realize the security of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Third, is to realize the ASEAN Community in a global community, of which is to further enhance ASEAN's role in global issues.
"Of course, all the priorities are based on a concept of ASEAN which is based in the ASEAN community," says Tene.
The ASEAN summit will be also be evaluated based on the score card of each member state. According to the director of political and security cooperation asean, Ade Fatmo Sarwono, score card that explains the efforts of ASEAN member countries in supporting the three pillars of ASEAN.
"Score card noting the ability of ASEAN countries in implementing the three pillars of ASEAN," said Sarwono.
The series of ASEAN summit beginning on Thursday, May 5, 2011, with sessions that will be attended by senior officials of member countries. Friday, May 6, 2011, to be held meeting of ASEAN ministers to menyingkapi problems and establish cooperation in the fields of economics, politics and security.
The climax is the ASEAN summit to be held on 7-8 May 2011 which will be followed by the leaders of ASEAN countries. Reportedly among the 10 ASEAN countries, assured the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong can not attend because his country was held a general election.
